The Causes of Low Oil Pressure and What You Can Do - A Guide From Our Anaheim Fleet Shop
February 25, 2022
Normal
oil pressure can vary from 30 to 70 psi depending on the type of semi
you drive. If your rig has low oil pressure, there could be a
problem. Anything below 20 psi on a truck that has been running for
at least 20 to 30 minutes is considered to have low oil pressure.
Keep reading to learn what can cause low oil pressure and how to fix
it. When you need semi truck maintenance or repairs due to low oil
pressure in Anaheim, CA, or the surrounding towns, contact Orange
County Fleet Services

Enough Oil
The
most common reason for a low oil pressure reading is if there simply
isn’t enough oil. This can happen even you’ve recently had the
oil filled or changed. Check your oil level to make sure it’s above
the minimum line. If not, add oil and look for any signs of oil spots
or leaks under your truck. Other reasons for low oil could be due to
a leaking seal or worn-out piston rings. This is more common with
older trucks. Contaminated
Engine Oil or Filter
Contaminated
oil could be caused by a leak, or if fuel, coolant, or water has
mixed with the engine. To solve the issue, the leak will need to be
found and repaired by a mechanic. Then the oil reservoir will need to
be completely drained and replaced with fresh oil. We also recommend
replacing the filter in case it is clogged, which can also contribute
to low oil pressure. Semi
